THE WOODEN BIRDS ANNOUNCE NEW LP, SXSW SHOWS

Barsuk Records is excited to announce the release of The Wooden Birds’ highly-anticipated new album entitled 'Two Matchsticks.'   The album will be out June 7 as the second Wooden Birds LP by American Analog Set founder/frontman and Broken Social Scene collaborator/touring member Andrew Kenny, and the follow up to his critically acclaimed 2009 Wooden Birds debut 'Magnolia.’

Kenny wrote every song on 'Two Matchsticks' and played every instrument, recorded it in a converted bedroom at home, and mixed at Austin's Resonate Studio with producer Louie Lino (Nada Surf). The album also features special guests Ben Gibbard, members of Ola Podrida, and Wooden Birds touring members Matt Pond and Leslie Sisson, who, in addition to backing vocals, takes a solo turn in a song custom penned by Kenny.  While 'Two Matchsticks' keeps the percussive affects of The Wooden Birds' debut, Kenny drew on the strength of The Wooden Bird's live show in writing the album, making it a stronger record sonically, more driven, upbeat and fuller than the Birds’ previous efforts. There is also a heat and a passion behind Kenny’s voice and thoughout the album’s lyrics, and the return of the vibraphone’s warm tones will also be a welcome sound to AmAnSet fans.

Well in advance of the June release of the album, fans will be treated to performances by The Wooden Birds at next month's SXSW Festival.  The band will be showcasing new tracks from ‘Two Matchsticks’ as well as favorites from 'Magnolia,' and you can count on some AmAnSet gems as well.  Next month, Daytrotter will post the intimate Wooden Birds session so watch for that to hit around March 10.   Visit The Wooden Birds at http://thewoodenbirds.com/ to keep up to date on tour announcements, videos and more!

SOUTHEAST ENGINE FEATURED ON NPR !

You like The Band? Wilco? Okkervil River? Well if you like them, chances are you’ll dig Southeast Engine Never heard of them? Well, hopefully that will change with the release of their 5th album Canary on March 29th on the recently revived Misra Records.

The vitals:
The band was discovered by The Wrens, formed by frontman Adam Remnant and drummer Leo DeLuca.

The kind of music they play: Americana, rustic story-telling heartland rock that could have been recorded in Woodstock in 1972.

On the band’s new album, the songwriting conceptually tells the story of a family living in a small Appalachian town in southeast Ohio during the Great Depression of the 1930′s. Lyrically it covers timeless topics of social, cultural and political concerns. Musically, it’s classic rock wisely dressed up in 2011 clothes. It’s one of the best roots-rock albums of 2011 so far.

The band are starting a big tour which brings them to Philly on Sunday, February 26th at the M Room.
