The Wooden Birds, led by Andrew Kenny (American Analog Set, Broken Social Scene) announce their North American headlining tour in support their great new full length, 'Two Matchsticks.'  The summer tour around  Barsuk's June 7th release of the album includes shows along both coasts and two Canadian dates.  Last month, The Wooden Birds treated fans to sets at SXSW which featured new tracks from 'Two Matchsticks' plus faves from their debut 'Magnolia' and AmAnSet gems as well.   The band also recorded an exclusive session with KUT which features unreleased songs which you can listen to here

This week MTVHive premieres the first song off 'Two Matchsticks and we're thrilled to be sharing it with all of you here !  The title track was recorded in a converted bedroom in Kenny's Austin home and mixed at Resonate Studio with producer Louie Lino (Nada Surf).  In creating 'Two Matchsticks,' the band drew on the strengths of their live show, making it more driven, upbeat and fuller than the Birds' previous efforts. The album also features Wooden Birds members Leslie Sisson and Matt Pond who, in addition to singing backing vocals on the album, sing lead and duet with Kenny on some of the album's most memorable songs.  Other special guests include Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie along with members of Ola Podrida.

THE BLACK SWANS ANNOUNCE LP, SHOWS, DEBUT VIDEO

The Black Swans new record 'Don't Blame The Stars' follows up mainman Jerry DeCicca's 7" split with Will Oldham and is the fourth lp from the unique OH folk rock band.  James Jackson Toth (Wooden Wand) calls the new Black Swans conceptual album about being alive and livin' "one of the best records you'll hear all year.  It is full of sad songs about happy things, and happy sounding songs about very, very strange things."  'Don't Blame The Stars' pays tribute to R&B both lyrically and musically and was recorded by Jerry and band in a garage in Columbus, OH.  Partway through the recording, the untimely death of Jerry's longtime musical partner and TBS bandmember Noel Sayre put its completion on hold for some time. When the band resumed work on 'Don't Blame The Stars,' the subjects of the songs took on a more profound resonance and Noel's expressive string arrangements were added posthumously.  Jerry also does a fair bit of narration, putting a real stamp of personality on an already beguiling listen.

Head to Magnet online here to see the premiere of the video for 'Don't Blame The Stars' single entitled "I Forgot To Change The Windshield Wipers In My Mind."  The track was also featured on the Misra Legacy Compilation Vol 1 available earlier this year.  The Black Swans will release 'Don't Blame The Stars' on May 31st as the 2nd release for the newly relaunched Misra Label.

The Black Swans have local shows lined up including a special Record Store Day performance as a five piece.  Stay tuned, much more touring tba.

Southeast Engine On 'World Cafe: Next'

The roots of Southeast Engine formed in the 1990s, when original bandmates and schoolmates Adam Remnant and Leo DeLuca were influenced by the underground music scene in Dayton, Ohio. Once they made the move to Athens, Ohio, they added to the lineup and the influences. Traditional folk and Appalachia have helped complete and ultimately define much of the band's sound since.

Southeast Engine recently released Canary, the follow-up to the highly praised but largely unnoticed Forest To The Sea. The new album employs folk, rock and bluegrass to tell the story of an Appalachian family during the Depression.
