DAVID KARSTEN DANIELS NEW LP, MP3 DOWNLOAD, REMIX COMPETITION

David Karsten Daniels newest album 'I Mean To Live Here Still' is a collaboration with avant nine piece Fight The Big Bull and will be available digitally on FatCat Records this summer. With lyrics borrowed from the work of transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau and Daniels' voice backed by the glorious and big-hearted Richmond, VA based Fight The Big Bull, this is an album worth repeated listens and one which will both satisfy and surprise anyone who thinks they know the work of either collaborator. Album track "The Funeral Bell" is available for download HERE.  Later this summer, DKD and FTBB will play very special performances in three select cities: NYC, Richmond, and Chapel Hill.

'I Mean To Live Here Still' involves the songwriting and arranging of Daniels, a hugely talented, formally trained composer/songwriter with a background in four-track experimentation and hymn singing, and nine piece avant jazz group Fight The Big Bull and its leader/composer Matthew White. Daniels and White traded song notes between SF and Richmond, VA, respectively, collaborating across the US for a number of months before Daniels headed to the east coast to record the album with FTBB earlier this year. 'I Mean To Live Here Still' is a record that successfully occupies that rarely-encountered middle ground between folk and raucous syncopated beats built by trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, trombones, upright bass, electric guitar, percussion and drums. NPR hailed the album early on as "a series of grand settings of Henry David Thoreau poems."

Currently, the album track "Smoke" is available for remix through a competition on the FatCat Records site. The best remix will be available for play on the DKD and FatCat myspace pages for a month plus the winner gets a very cool FatCat goody bag. LA STRADA EXCLUSIVE ON HEY BROOKLYN!

Daniel and James are two of the members of La Strada, a band that had a hard time describing their sound as strictly “indie” although that’s probably the closet definition that fits. They say they are “an energetic rock/pop with strings, accordion, guitars, drums, whistles, circus animals, puppeteers, loud voices, etc.” That fits, too.

You can catch them at the Bell House in Brooklyn on May 29, and heads up to local musicians: they are looking for a second violinist “that can shred” to join them.

Highlights of Hey Brooklyn! interview and performance include hearing about their unusual writing process, and the story of how they found Faten Kanaan, the artist that painted their album artwork. It is a totally New York City tale that takes place the most unique of New York City spaces: the subway.

Their self titled EP is available now, as well as their new full-length album New Home.

To celebrate the big release, Comedy Central will be airing Reggie's 'Why S#!+ So Crazy?' Special in its entirety tonight at 2:30 am EST/1:30 am CST, featuring live performance footage of Reggie filmed on stages around NYC along with original scripted comedy. It will also mark the television debut of Reggie's hit video for album single "F*ck Sh*t Stack" whose blend of parody and hip hop pastiche has already gone viral. A remix of unreleased album track "My History Thus Far" is available as free mp3 download and Electic Method made an exclusive video remix of DVD footage.

To celebrate their hugely successful Record Release Tour of the East Coast and Canada in support of their heralded debut lp 'NEW HOME,' Brooklyn's LA STRADA are premiering the first video for standout track "WASH ON BY."  Directed by award-winning filmmaker Mark Becker, we find the six exhuberant young gents in a David Lynch-ian world of a long-forgotten resort haunted by a shovel carrying lady and an empty drive-in where an on-screen femme fatale is seen and then flickers out leaving everyone wondering whether her influence was real or imagined. La Strada shot the video in 8 different locations, all an hour or two north of New York City, over the course of two days – with a bare-bones crew of 6.
