MARK MALLMAN ANNOUNCES 78 HOUR PERFORMANCE "MARATHON 3"

MARATHON 3 : The 78 hour long song

 
From October 7 through October 10,  Mark Mallman will perform one of the greatest musical feats of his career thus far; the 78 hour long song MARATHON 3.  His non-stop performance from the Turf Club in St. Paul, MN will include well over 400 pages of lyrics and nearly 100 backup musicians over the course of 4 days.  It's been six years since Mallman’s last marathon performance (Marathon 1 happened Sept 10-11 1999, and Marathon 2 took place September 4-6, 2004).

This Piece is representative of one of indie rock's unsung heros life's undertaking.  “This piece represents 3 marathons.  Each phase is 26 hours long, like a Marathon is 26 miles.  The first phase is called 'A Giant Wave,' the second 'Blood Flow,' and the 3rd “Liquid Moth.””  The 3 phases of the song will be performed consecutively, without breaks, totaling 78 hours.  When asked recently if he was planning on setting a world record, Mallman declined, saying,  “I am not a magician or a stuntman attempting to set a world record.  I am a professional musician.  I seek to expose the raw nerve of creativity itself.”

Mark Mallman's songs have been featured on This American Life, MTV, VH1, MSNBC, Current Television, and Public Radio International.  He has been touring America twice a year since 2003 and is currently signed with Badman Recording Company.  Mallman is also the frontman for Ruby Isle (Kindercore) and guitarist of newly formed WAXX MAXX.

Marathon 3 will begin October 7th at 4pm CST and end October 10th at 10pm CST and will be webcast live from www.markmallman.com.  A full schedule of guests and performers will be announced a week before Marathon 3 and the event will be recorded on multi-track for future release.  Advanced tickets are available through First Avenue and online at http://www.first-avenue.com/calendar/Turf%20Club/2010-10

KUMAIL NANJIANI brings his ECNY Award Winning One Man Show 'Unpronounceable' to iO West in LA on July 8.  Based on his upbringing in Pakistan and transition to Iowa where he attended Grinnell College, 'Unpronounceable' is a hilarious chronicle written and performed by one of today's top comedians and directed by Paul Provenza (director of The Aristocrats). Kumail also won the 2009 ECNY Award for Best Male Stand Up Comedian, was recently featured in New York Magazine's "Ten Funny People That Funny People Find Funny", on Jimmy Kimmel Live and in his recurring role as Homer, the suspected Greek terrorist on The Colbert Report.

This weekend EUGENE MIRMAN returns to his alma mater, Lexington High School, to deliver the commencement speech at this year's graduation. He will, I'm sure, cull from his vast wisdom just as he did in writing THE WILL TO WHATEVS, to set the Class of 2009 on their path to success. From special ed to graduation speaker, Eugene, you done good!

The brilliant TOM SHILLUE will be part of the 826NYC Benefit happening June 19 @ Bar Matchless in Brooklyn. The theme for the night is "vacation" so you can look forward to one of the city's finest and funniest storytellers presenting an original piece alongside a talented line up.

With countless credits between them, top notch comedians and longtime friends LIZZ WINSTEAD AND DANA GOULD will share the stage for four shows on June 26th and 27th at Comix in New York. These two comedy legends are amazing separately, but as they co-headline Comix for the first time ever it will make for shows to remember! Showtimes: 8pm & 10:30 both nights

Written in the haunted basement of a converted church and inspired by a ghostly apparition of Elvis, ‘INVINCIBLE CRIMINAL’ is the newest full length from musical genius MARK MALLMAN. Available early this August on BADMAN RECORDING CO (My Morning Jacket, Starf*cker), it will feature longtime friend and HOLD STEADY singer CRAIG FINN contributing vocals on "You're Never Alone in New York”, and CLOUD CULT violinist SHANNON FRID duets on "In These Times of Harsh Economy", a chilling ballad about John Dillenger's Lady in Red, Anna Sage.

"In the past three years, I've tasted death one too many times to let a minute slip through my fingers anymore. Don't be confused, the Invincible Criminal isn't me, it's time,” he says.

Mark Mallman is known as many things: The Fastest Piano in the Midwest, Ruby Isle front man, an insanely gifted performer who has toured the USA a staggering 23 times, the notable Mr Serious, and as the World Record holder for Longest Song Performed (Marathon 2 at 52 hrs!).
