Watch new David Karsten Daniels & Fight The Big Bull video at FADER

Head over to the FADER website to check out an exclusive premiere of the second video from David Karsten Daniels & Fight The Big Bull's new album, 'I Mean To Live Here Still'. The video for "Smoke" was directed by Justin Hamilton, and features daydreams of young love amidst gorgeously shot, sun-washed foliage, contrasted with dark, nervous everyday scenes.

'I Mean To Live Here Still' is currently being streamed in its entirety at the NPR Music website as part of their 'Exclusive First Listen' series; check out the stream HERE.

The album, which NPR calls "exuberant, messy, and glorious," will be released on FatCat Records 21 June in UK/Europe and 22 June in the USA.

The full ensemble will be playing three US special record release shows in Richmond, Chapel Hill, and NYC:
8 Jul - The Camel, Richmond VA
9 Jul - Local 506, Chapel Hill NC
12 Jul - Le Poisson Rouge, New York NY

NEW DAVID KARSTEN DANIELS RECORD STREAMING AT NPR

Head over to NPR to get an early listen to the upcoming release from David Karsten Daniels and Fight The Big Bull as 'I Mean to Live Here Still' is streaming all week before its release on FatCat Records next Tuesday.

Featured today on First Listen, NPR says its "an exuberant, messy and glorious new album...You could approximate it as lush orchestral pop in the tradition of Van Dyke Parks or Randy Newman — if those folks had a house horn section with which to indulge their weirdest weirdnesses.

The whole thing buzzes with big ideas — these are Thoreau poems sung over a big band, after all — but they don't feel pretentious. The artistry is too high, and the grooves too interesting. I Mean to Live Here Still will stream HERE in its entirety until its release on June 22"

Next month, David and Fight The Big Bull will be showcasing songs from 'I Mean to Live Here Still' on a select three city east coast tour:

David Karsten Daniels newest album 'I Mean To Live Here Still' is a collaboration with avant nine piece Fight The Big Bull and will be available digitally on FatCat Records this summer. With lyrics borrowed from the work of transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau and Daniels' voice backed by the glorious and big-hearted Richmond, VA based Fight The Big Bull, this is an album worth repeated listens and one which will both satisfy and surprise anyone who thinks they know the work of either collaborator. Album track "The Funeral Bell" is available for download HERE.  Later this summer, DKD and FTBB will play very special performances in three select cities: NYC, Richmond, and Chapel Hill.

'I Mean To Live Here Still' involves the songwriting and arranging of Daniels, a hugely talented, formally trained composer/songwriter with a background in four-track experimentation and hymn singing, and nine piece avant jazz group Fight The Big Bull and its leader/composer Matthew White. Daniels and White traded song notes between SF and Richmond, VA, respectively, collaborating across the US for a number of months before Daniels headed to the east coast to record the album with FTBB earlier this year. 'I Mean To Live Here Still' is a record that successfully occupies that rarely-encountered middle ground between folk and raucous syncopated beats built by trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, trombones, upright bass, electric guitar, percussion and drums. NPR hailed the album early on as "a series of grand settings of Henry David Thoreau poems."

Currently, the album track "Smoke" is available for remix through a competition on the FatCat Records site. The best remix will be available for play on the DKD and FatCat myspace pages for a month plus the winner gets a very cool FatCat goody bag. Click HERE to download stems of "Smoke" to make your own remix. Email all submissions/links to submissions info@fat-cat.co.uk. Competition ends July 7th.

Also in July, David Karsten Daniels and Fight The Big Bull will showcase songs from 'I Mean To Live Here Still' with three not-to-be-missed performances:

7/8 - Richmond, VA @ The Camel
7/9 - Chapel Hill, NC @ Local 506
7/12 - New York, NY @ Le Poisson Rouge
